MILDURA, Australia — Residents in an Australian town wondered if Stranger Things had become real when they saw a mysterious pink light consume the night sky on Wednesday.
The unusual sight was captured on camera by Tammy Szumowski, a resident of Mildura in northern Victoria. Posting her pictures online, Tammy, 42, wrote: “Just took these photo’s at Merbein south!! Any Ideas what it is people? Aliens?? ‘Stranger Things’?”
Fellow local Amy Jones commented: “I was hanging the washing out and thought it was the sun setting.”
Another person added: ”Crazy crazy!!! Maybe the aliens are already here. Or radiation beam designed to start neutralizing the effects of Covid.”
The explanation behind the strange pink glow was more down-to-earth, however. The lights were confirmed by medical marijuana grower Cann Pharmaceutical to have come from a commercial harvesting shed where the doors had been left open. A Cann spokesperson told ABC News they were testing a new room that’s come into commission.
LED lighting for cannabis growing can often gives off a pink or purple hue.
Cann Group is the first company to be issued with a Cannabis Research Licence by the Australian Government’s Office of Drug Control (ODC) in February 2017.
Earlier this month, the firm announced: “In combination with the licences and permits issued by the Office of Drug Control (ODC) earlier this year, the GMP licence will allow us to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) at the facility, manufacture Satipharm capsules for human therapeutic use, and perform in-house chemical, physical, and microbiological tests to demonstrate that products meet local and overseas regulatory requirements.”
